Our Mission and Core Principles

Our Mission:

Founded in 1891 by immigrants from Eastern Europe, the Stanton Street Shul is a warm, welcoming and eclectic modern Orthodox Jewish community on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Grounded in tradition and committed to halacha, we are engaged in dialogue with progressive values, guided by our motto, “All are welcome, all will feel welcome.”

Core Principles:

  • We celebrate diversity while focusing on what we share in common, welcoming all who seek a place of Jewish prayer and community.
  • We are dedicated to Jewish learning and strive to create an inclusive environment, providing opportunities for spiritual growth and ritual participation for all.
  • We encourage members to play an active role in shul leadership and programming, alongside our rabbi and board.
  • We are stewards of our century-old Shul building, which is a vessel for vibrant and loving transmission of our heritage and history.
  • We are committed to strengthening our own congregation while also building connections with other local communities and to Israel.
