Welcome Baby Bodner!!! Shalom Zachor on Friday Night; Brit on Monday Morning

Mazal tov to Rabbi Aviad and Lindey Bodner on the birth of a baby boy earlier this week! Please join us in welcoming the newest member of the Stanton family at a shalom zachor (welcoming of the first baby boy) on Friday night after Kabbalat Shabbat services, which begin at 5:20pm. Festivities will finish by 8pm.

The brit milah for baby boy Bodner will be on Monday morning at the shul. Shacharit services will begin at 7:15am, with the brit at 7:55am, directly followed by brief remarks from the new parents and a seudat mitzvah (or breakfast to-go for those who need to get to work). All are welcome!

New Winter Davening Times: Kabbalat Shabbat at 5:20pm (and Learning Before That), Shabbat Afternoon Mincha at 12:30pm

Now that we've changed the clocks, sundown is coming much earlier. But who wants to eat dinner at 5:00pm? For those who prefer to daven on the later side, we're holding Kabbalat Shabbat and Maariv at 5:20pm every Friday night through the Winter months. And if you're looking for something to do between candle lighting and services, how about joining Rabbi Bodner to learn gemara? Class will meet every Friday starting about 10 minutes after candle lighting.

On Shabbat morning, stay for kiddush at noon, followed by mincha at 12:30pm.

Year-End Giving and StantonKIDS #GivingTuesday Campaign Results

December has arrived, and with it your last chance to make your charitable contributions for 2016. Please remember Stanton in your year-end giving, keeping in mind that we rely on your generosity at this time of year to meet our annual budget and to ensure we can continue to provide free and welcoming services, classes, community events, kids programming and more. Click here to make a donation now!

Speaking of kids programming, thank you to all who donated to our #GivingTuesday campaign for StantonKIDS! We raised almost $1700 X 2, thanks to our very generous matching donor!

Since we did not quite meet our $3,000 goal, the donor has extended the offer and will continue to match donations designated for StantonKIDS until the end of the year.  Please keep this in mind as you consider your year-end giving!

(StantonKIDS program sponsorships are available at different levels, beginning at $180. For more information, email kids@stantonstshul.com.)

SAVE THE DATE: Guest Speaker on December 17

Join us for a special guest speaker on Shabbat of December 17!

Coinciding with Parashat Vayishlach, when Joseph is imprisoned in Egypt, Rabbi Andrew Scheer will speak on his experience working as a Jewish Chaplain for New York City's Department of Corrections. He will provide a broad overview of the conditions on Rikers Island as well as the borough facilities in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx.

Rabbi Scheer will speak after kiddush, before mincha, and will present vignettes of different inmates to offer a better glimpse into what Joseph could have been feeling as he sat in jail.

SAVE THE DATE: Chinese Food Shabbat Community Dinner with Yiddish NY, December 23

So there's this tradition in which Jews eat Chinese food toward the end of December. We're not really sure where this tradition originated -- maybe something to do with all the fried foods? In honor of Chaunkah? In any event, save the date for a Chinese food Shabbat dinner on December 23, in conjunction with Yiddish NY. Stay tuned for details and sign up info.

Carlebach Shabbaton at Mizrachi Shul, December 9-10

On Shabbat Vayeitzei, December 9-10, the Mizrachi Synagogue will be hosting Chazzan Sruli Hersh, who will lead an Oneg at the Arfe Residence, 475 FDR Drive, #105, on Friday night at 7:45 PM. All are invited.

Volunteering at Stanton

One of the many strengths of our shul is the variety and multiple talents and abilities of our congregants. It takes a lot to run our shul and our programming, and we can probably use your help. Are you a tech guru, web design aficionado, or social media wiz? A master event planner, fundraiser, or program coordinator? An accountant, lawyer, or investment professional? A trained carpenter, electrician, or contractor? If you have any of these or other skills, professional or amateur, that you'd like to contribute to Stanton, speak to Rabbi Bodner, Rivky Friedman, or another member of the board and let's think about how we can help make Stanton flourish together.

Planned Giving at Stanton

Looking for a way to give back to Stanton, not right now, but maybe at some point in the future? Consider planning a long-term gift to the shul. We encourage anyone interested in discussing various ways to plan a gift now that will be given in the future to contact Board members Michael Gordon or Rivky Friedman, or Rabbi Bodner. There are many ways to go about planned giving and we are happy to discuss the various options that might work for you.
