The Star of David is symbol of our Jewish People, the bee is the symbol of Manchester.
We spent a meaningful Yom Kippur together, standing side by side in prayer, and then we were met with the heartbreaking news of the attack at the Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester. It’s hard to put into words how devastating it is to hear that a sacred space, during such a holy time, was targeted in such a violent way. Our hearts are with the Manchester community and with all those who are grieving and shaken.
In moments like this, we are reminded of how much we need each other. We find strength in being together, in supporting each other, and in holding tightly to our Jewish pride. We respond with prayer and with acts of kindness that bring light into the world. That’s who we are, and that’s how we’ll continue to stand strong - together. We wish you all a Shabbat Shalom, a Shabbat of peace.
Even as we carry this heaviness in our hearts, we are also reminded of the warmth, generosity, and resilience of our own community. Thank you all for making Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur so special! We especially want to thank the following people for going above and beyond during these holidays:
Rabbi Birkeland, our spiritual leader, for offering words of wisdom and leading us in davening; Mordchai Silver, David Friedman, and Moshe Bloxeinheim for leading davening and Torah reading; Ethan Ellenberg and Marc Schwartzberg for their caring leadership; David Deutsch and Moshe Bloxeinheim for helping prepare the shul for Yom Tovim; Michael Gordon for the Kol Nidrei appeal; Aliza Deutsch for StantonKIDS; Aliza Deutsch and Lina Morales for their drashot (we wish Lina well as she moves from the neighborhood); Maria Santos for keeping the shul clean and assisting with kiddush; and Judy Josephs for all the work she does behind the scenes.
We look forward to coming together as a community again for Shabbat and for Sukkot. The Sukkot schedule is:
