Has Your Cholent Got Game? Now Accepting Entries for Stanton's Third Annual Cholent Cook-Off, Feb. 24
Last year's Cholent Cook-off was so delicious, we decided to do it again. Will our first cookoff winner regain her title? Will the shul be able to hold everyone after we've all had our fill of cholent?
Come to shul on Friday night, February 24 to find out!
Here's how it works:
- Participants will cook in the shul on Thursday night, February 23.
- Stanton will provide a crockpot, basic cholent ingredients and utensils.
- Contestants will bring whatever else they need (as long as it's kosher-certified) to make a winning cholent and will set their dishes to go in the crockpots overnight.
Then the entire community is invited to taste and vote on the cholent choices on Friday night, Shabbat, February 24 after services. The winner gets a trophy and bragging rights!
Mishloach Manot, sending food gifts to friends and family, is one of the four Mitzvot performed on Purim. It is a heartfelt way to emphasize the Jewish unity that lies at the core of the Purim holiday, and to create meaningful connections within our own community at the same time. Through Stanton's Mishloach Manot project, you can participate in giving a beautiful gift basket to your friends and family at Stanton, which they will receive on Purim when they come to shul.
If you are a shul member, you should have received an email this week with your personal log-in code and instructions for how to participate in the project. If you didn't receive an email and want to participate, please contact us at office@stantonstshul.com ASAP.
Please sign up by March 1, 2017, in order to participate in the project!
StantonTOTS Recap & SAVE THE DATE for StantonKIDS Purim Program on Sunday, February 26
Save the date for a Sunday morning pre-Purim StantonKIDS program on February 26. More details coming soon!
This past Sunday we had an incredibly successful launch of our first StantonTOTS Mommy/Daddy and Me program. A group of babies and tots, ranging in age from eight weeks to 21 months, enjoyed story time, songs, making hand prints, and other fun and engaging activities with Morah Katie. Thank you to the StantonKIDS team -- Laura Weisblatt, Aliza Deutsch, Elissa Sampson and Lindsey Bodner -- for putting it all together. Stay tuned for more about the next StantonTOTS meeting!
We work hard to provide the highest quality StantonKIDS programming for our youngest members. We completely rely on donations to provide this programming, and every bit counts. So please consider giving to StantonKIDS! Click here to donate now. To those who already gave to help us meet our 2016 challenge grant, THANK YOU!
Volunteering at Stanton
One of the many strengths of our shul is the variety and multiple talents and abilities of our congregants. It takes a lot to run our shul and our programming, and we can probably use your help. Are you a tech guru, web design aficionado, or social media wiz? A master event planner, fundraiser, or program coordinator? An accountant, lawyer, or investment professional? A trained carpenter, electrician, or contractor? If you have any of these or other skills, professional or amateur, that you'd like to contribute to Stanton, speak to Rabbi Bodner, Rivky Friedman, or another member of the board and let's think about how we can help make Stanton flourish together.
Planned Giving at Stanton
Looking for a way to give back to Stanton, not right now, but maybe at some point in the future? Consider planning a long-term gift to the shul. We encourage anyone interested in discussing various ways to plan a gift now that will be given in the future to contact Board members Michael Gordon or Rivky Friedman, or Rabbi Bodner. There are many ways to go about planned giving and we are happy to discuss the various options that might work for you.
The Stanton Street Shul is proud to be a member synagogue of The Downtown Va'ad!
