Tisha B'Av Program on Monday Night, July 31

From sundown on July 31 until nightfall of August 1, we will be observing the fast of Tisha B'Av (Ninth of Av).

During this period, we mourn the destruction of the Beit Hamikdash (Holy Temple). We grapple with the sins of our ancestors, the baseless hatred said to have brought about the Temple's destruction, and our own responsibility to right their wrongs by repairing our relationships with each other.

Join us for a meaningful and moving program on Monday, July 31, beginning with Ma'ariv at 8:30 pm, followed by a reading of the Book of Eichah and communal singing of Kinot (Elegies) downstairs in the beit midrash. All are welcome.

Fast Begins: Monday night, July 31st, 8:13 pm

Fast Ends: Tuesday night, August 1, 8:56 pm

Lox, Scotch & Talk on Sunday, August 6, 12:30pm

Lox, Scotch and Talk is an opportunity to learn more about the old Lower East Side while eating smoked fish, drinking scotch and listening to live jazz tunes. Come and have a drink, listen to some great stories and meet the oldsters and youngsters you might not otherwise talk to on a regular Sunday morning. L’chaim.

This event will take place on Sunday, August 6, from 12:30 to 3:30pm, and is sponsored by @oldjewishmen, a satirical Instagram account, and Raskins Fish (Scotch sponsors pending).

The event is open to the public, with a suggested donation of $10/person.

Construction Has Begun! (And People Are Noticing.)

Our Urgent Repairs Project is underway! When you come to shul this Shabbat, you may notice some temporary structures at the front of the shul sanctuary, near the bima. Otherwise, our use of the shul -- both the main sanctuary and the beit midrash -- should be unobstructed. The work will continue through the summer.

The shul has receieved press coverage about the construction, including in the Lo-Down and The New York Jewish Week.

Thank you to the NY Landmarks Conservancy and to all who contributed to make these repairs possible. Thank you also to the Urgent Repairs Committee members -- Elissa Sampson, Raffi Abelson, Jessica Spector, Jeff Katz and Rivky Friedman -- for their efforts in moving this project forward.

Volunteering at Stanton

One of the many strengths of our shul is the variety and multiple talents and abilities of our congregants. It takes a lot to run our shul and our programming, and we can probably use your help. Are you a tech guru, web design aficionado, or social media wiz? A master event planner, fundraiser, or program coordinator? An accountant, lawyer, or investment professional? A trained carpenter, electrician, or contractor? If you have any of these or other skills, professional or amateur, that you'd like to contribute to Stanton, speak to Rabbi Bodner, Rivky Friedman, or another member of the board and let's think about how we can help make Stanton flourish together.

Planned Giving at Stanton

Looking for a way to give back to Stanton, not right now, but maybe at some point in the future? Consider planning a long-term gift to the shul. We encourage anyone interested in discussing various ways to plan a gift now that will be given in the future to contact Board members Michael Gordon or Rivky Friedman, or Rabbi Bodner. There are many ways to go about planned giving and we are happy to discuss the various options that might work for you.
