A Message from the Stanton Street Shul 2018 Giving Circle

A group of nine Stanton community members participated in the Stanton Giving Circle (learn more about giving circles), and committed time and money to fortify the strong sense of hospitality and community at Stanton. With their collective donations, the group decided to establish a Shul Refreshment Fund, providing meals for weekly shul activities and Shabbat meals.

Our message: We hope the community enjoys having (more!) food at (more!) Stanton events and sees the value it brings to regulars and first-timers alike. Through our giving circle, we hope to galvanize Stanton to become a "giving shul." We encourage others to regularly sponsor kiddushes and refreshments at all Stanton classes and activities and to make financially supporting the shul in ways meaningful to you a part of your regular practice.

Unity Shabbat Dinner - Next Friday Night, July 20th

During this period of mourning for the loss of our Temple in Jerusalem, the Stanton Street Shul has been considering how we can create unity among the Jewish people. As we have done last year, we will be hosting a Shabbat dinner in the spirit of unity and invited members of Town and Village Synagogue, the Conservative Community located on 14th Street, and their spiritual leader Rabbi Laurence Sebert, to join us. We are thrilled to welcome them to our shul.

This event will take place on Friday night, July 20th- Erev Tisha B'Av. If you are interested in attending or sponsoring this unique dinner of אהבת חינם (love) please contact me at rabbi@stantonstshul.com. This is a wonderful opportunity to foster unity among the Jewish people in these divisive and challenging times.

Tisha B'Av at Stanton - Saturday Night through Sunday, July 21-22

From sundown on July 21 until nightfall of July 22, we will be observing the fast of Tisha B'Av (this year observed on the 10th of Av).

During this period, we mourn the destruction of the Beit Hamikdash (Holy Temple). We grapple with the sins of our ancestors, the baseless hatred said to have brought about the Temple's destruction, and our own responsibility to right their wrongs by repairing our relationships with each other.

Join us for a meaningful and moving program on Saturday night, July 21, beginning with Ma'ariv at 9:30 pm, followed by a reading of the Book of Eichah and communal singing of Kinot (Elegies) downstairs in the beit midrash. All are welcome.

6:45p Class with Rabbi Aviad BodnerChanges to the Nachem Prayer at Stanton
