Year-End Giving: Please Be Generous
(StantonKIDS Matching Opportunity Extended!)

December has arrived, and with it your last chance to make your charitable contributions for 2016. We have no flashy pitch or clever campaign slogan, just a simple ask: Please remember Stanton in your year-end giving, and please give generously.

Stanton's modest decor and laid-back atmosphere may belie the fact that it takes a tremendous amount of money to keep our doors open; our lights on; our heat working; our kiddushes flowing with kugel and schnapps; our prayer services running smoothly; and our kids programming, women's tefilah meetings, and rabbi's classes going. (All of this is in addition to keeping our building standing, a separate issue for which we raised funds at our recent benefit.)

As our numbers and program offerings grow, so does our annual budget, but we are committed to keeping our membership dues low and making our services and programs free whenever possible. All of which means we rely on your generosity to make up the difference and to ensure the financial health of our shul. We are hoping to raise $18,000 before the end of the year to make sure we cover our operating operating expenses. Please show your support for our warm and welcoming community by giving generously to our year-end campaign.

Click here to make a donation now! Or send a check to Stanton Street Shul, P.O. Box 1008, New York, NY 10002, and note "Year-End campaign" on the check.

Please note that year-end contributions earmarked for StantonKIDS will be MATCHED through the end of the year, thanks to a generous donor.

Thank you for your generosity and for all you do, collectively and individually, to make Stanton the special place that it is.

Historical Walking Tour of the Lower East Side with Dr. Elissa Sampson (Yiddish NY Event)

Four out of Five American Jews can trace their origins to the Lower East Side. Join us for a talk followed by a walking tour led by acclaimed scholar Elissa Sampson, part of the upcoming Yiddish New York Festival. You'll learn about the neighborhood's historic synagogues, old tenements, landsmanshaftn, and visit secret community gardens that tell a tale of the LES's evolution. We'll meet at the historic Stanton Street Shul (180 Stanton Street between Clinton St. and Attorney St., just South of E. Houston St. on the Lower East Side). Bring your walking shoes! The talk will run from 1-1:30PM, with the walking tour from 1:30-2:30PM (if it rains, we'll spend more time inside).

CHANUKAH AT STANTON:
Morning Minyan on Sunday, December 25, 9am

Celebrate Chanukah at Stanton! Join us for morning minyan on the first day of the holiday, Sunday, December 25, at 9:00am, for Shacharit services, with Hallel and Torah reading, and followed by bagels. Everyone is welcome to stay after services for a light breakfast and a sort learning session with Rabbi Bodner about the subject of Chanukah in the Mishna.

Dreidel Tournament on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 7pm

Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel. Bring your best spins and a bit of gelt and enter our dreidel tournament on the 5th night of Chanukah, Wednesday, December 28, beginning at 7pm at the shul.

Dreidel-playing not your thing? There will also be menorah lighting, beverages, and fried foods to get you in the Chanukah spirit.

Dreidel spinners, suganiyot noshers, and hangers-on of all ages are welcome!

Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It...

A few months ago, many of our members filled out a survey asking what they feel are the most important values of our Shul. This was valuable input as we prepare to write a Mission Statement for our congregation. Now we'd like to convene a small group of members to meet in person and provide more in-depth feedback about the mission of the Stanton Street Shul. If you are interested in participating in this group, please email Laura Weisblatt at laurarweisblatt@gmail.com.

Winter Davening Times: Kabbalat Shabbat at 5:20pm (and Learning Before That), Shabbat Afternoon Mincha at 12:30pm

Now that we've changed the clocks, sundown is coming much earlier. But who wants to eat dinner at 5:00pm? For those who prefer to daven on the later side, we're holding Kabbalat Shabbat and Maariv at 5:20pm every Friday night through the Winter months. And if you're looking for something to do between candle lighting and services, how about joining Rabbi Bodner to learn gemara? Class will meet every Friday starting about 10 minutes after candle lighting.

On Shabbat morning, stay for kiddush at noon, followed by mincha at 12:30pm.

Volunteering at Stanton

One of the many strengths of our shul is the variety and multiple talents and abilities of our congregants. It takes a lot to run our shul and our programming, and we can probably use your help. Are you a tech guru, web design aficionado, or social media wiz? A master event planner, fundraiser, or program coordinator? An accountant, lawyer, or investment professional? A trained carpenter, electrician, or contractor? If you have any of these or other skills, professional or amateur, that you'd like to contribute to Stanton, speak to Rabbi Bodner, Rivky Friedman, or another member of the board and let's think about how we can help make Stanton flourish together.

Planned Giving at Stanton

Looking for a way to give back to Stanton, not right now, but maybe at some point in the future? Consider planning a long-term gift to the shul. We encourage anyone interested in discussing various ways to plan a gift now that will be given in the future to contact Board members Michael Gordon or Rivky Friedman, or Rabbi Bodner. There are many ways to go about planned giving and we are happy to discuss the various options that might work for you.
